Final Cut Editor Nicolas Larrouquère Reveals What’s On His Creative Radar

April 10, 2024

Final Cut editor Nicolas Larrouquère talks strong stories, Seattle documentaries, and surfing video significance.

"What’s the most creative advertising idea you’ve seen recently?
‘Well, the first thing that pops in is not really recent. It’s an ad for Thorntons, directed by Harmony Korine, and has always been in my mind somehow. It perfectly represents the whole idea of creativity in advertising, when the concept embraces the craft and delivers a strong message.’

What website(s) do you use most regularly?
‘I use lemonde.fr daily (an equivalent of The New York Times) because I like to be informed and not just read headlines. Chapter11.tv because they have the best music content on surf videos, and the work of Dane Reynolds always inspired me as an editor (this guy is not only a genius as a surfer, but also as DIY director/editor). And youtube.com (same as everybody else I guess) because you can find all the personalised content you’re looking for — cooking, jiujitsu, excel coding, etc.’

What’s the most recent piece of tech that you’ve bought?
‘A graphic tablet. Editing with this tool is a blessing - you can go so much faster.’

What product could you not live without?
‘My bike.’

What’s the best film you’ve seen over the last year?
’Streetwise, a 1983 documentary that follows downtown Seattle’s street teens. The cinematography and the edit attached to it make it a must-watch.’”
