Epoch Films Founding Partner Mindy Goldberg on Making the Industry Better One Short at a Time

March 28, 2024

“‘Short films are a labour of love,’ says Mindy Goldberg Founding Partner of Epoch Films. ‘But they’re not only a labour of love because, done for the right reasons - and with the right approach - they can push a director’s career forward and be successful for productions companies, agencies and brands alike.’

Wes Anderson recently won his first Oscar! Known for visionary auteur films such as The Royal Tenenbaums, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Moonrise Kingdom, it came as a surprise to many that his first Oscar win was for The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, a live-action short film.I was happy for Mr. Anderson, and reminded that ‘the short’ is often an under-appreciated piece of art.

Epoch Films works primarily in the ad space, however we have also successfully ventured into features, docs and short films. From a company perspective, shorts have real value. These projects can often be incubators for developing talent and ideas, creating deep partnerships that will likely pay off for the production company and director.

These films can be a great showcase for a story idea, a director’s distinctive talent, voice and artistic craft… and generate new opportunities by appealing to decision-makers in TV, film and advertising.”
